Charity tennis event a smash hit for Marie Curie!
CIYMS tennis club has proved a smash charity hit – by netting almost £500 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The money was raised in their annual winter charity tournament – now one of the biggest calendar events at the east Belfast club.
Forty players braved the elements on a winter night to prove the point that charity really does begin at home.
Our picture here shows ladies’ competition winner Pamela Parkins (left) with Lesley Wright of Marie Curie Cancer Care and club ladies’ captain Donna McDowell.
Mandy McCrory took the runner-up spot behind Pamela in the ladies’ event, while the men’s title went to Brian Parke, with former club captain Paddy Frew a close second.
The players aimed for a baseline figure of around £300 but managed to serve up much more - and can’t be double-faulted for their efforts!
